Where I stayed
Tembe Game Lodge
This was our first major stop back in South Africa---the Tembe Elephant Park. Because of the sand you can only drive a 4X4 into the park, therefore we purchased a all-in-one deal. Lodge, food and 2 game rides---it was great.
Tempe was established in 1983 to protect elephants which used to migrate between the northern part of South Africa and southern part of Mozambique. These elephants were traumatized by poaching during the civil war in Mozambique so the park was only opened to the public in 1991. The park is now home to 250 elephants which are the largest in the world.
Many old bulls have some of the longest tusks we have seen during out trip.
