We went north to the corner of the county to see Kosi Bay which is a series of four interlinked lakes coming from the Indian Ocean and mixing with fresh water. Took a boat ride for the day which included going up and down the lakes and over to the beach. Our first trip to the Indian Ocean!
The lakes form part of the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kosi Bay estuary is only 1.2 miles from the Mozambique border. It is one of the quietest beaches in South Africa. The Kosi River Mouth is known as "the aquarium" because of the clarity of the water and the abundance of fish species.
Kosi Bay is particularly famous for the traditional fish traps built to trap fish moving in and out of the estuary with the tide.
