Cradled in a crook of the Sundays River, to the approaching traveler, Graaff -Reinet seems like a oasis in the stark surrounding landscape. Graaff-Reinet is home to more National Monuments than any other town or city in South Africa. Round every corner a piece of South Africa's history was revealed to us.

Reinet House (see picture) forms part of a museum complex of four historic buildings. We spend time in the town for some museum viewing, shopping and great food.

We went out of town to visit the "Karoo Nature Reserve" to see the animals and the great mountain views. Packed a picnic dinner to watch the sunset, the picture does not do it justice.
