Where I stayed
The flight to Rarotonga was almost as long as we sat in LA airport waiting for our flight. We got so tired up driving round Hollywood and LA we just took the car back and sat in the airport for a few extra hours before our flight. The way the LA people were driving their Porches and Ferraris I think we were lucky to escape without having an accident, those people are crazy.
Anyway Rarotonga is great, the Muri Beach cottages are in a nice spot, and the view from our balcony is stunning, it overlooks the lagoon and a pretty island, and in the distance we can see the waves breaking on the reef. When we arrived the sun was just coming up so we sat and watched it for a couple of hours.
It is good to be back on a beach again and some warmth in the sun
Bit cloudy and some rain today, but did it stop us, of course it didn't.
Today was a day of firsts....
First time i have driven a motor cycle (ok it was just a 125 cc scooter with automatic gears).
But still a first.
Had my first bike test , well no, we had 2 bike tests, first one was with island rentals and consisted of a 100 metres ride up a road, turn the bike round and ride back, whoo hooo! I passed... First time i have passed a bike test. Then they tried to sort out a bike for us and 2 wouldn’t start, one was so beat up we didn’t want it and the one we took out only had one indicator working so we took it back and got a refund..then it was off to Budget rental to see if they had a bike for us, well they did , but they didn’t trust the other rental company so i had to take another test, this time i had to ride 200 meters up the road turn round and ride back, Woo Hooo
So we got a bike, now the next part is to go get a licence to ride in the cook islands. This is obtained in the police station which is on the other side of the island, so off i set at 30 mph in the direction of the police station. 20 mins later, and no dramas i pulled into the police station along with about 20 other bikers( yea! , me a biker) to get my licence. After queuing for about 20 mins and having my mug shot taken I am now the proud owner of a cook island driving licence valid for 1 year, my first bike licence. (think it’s just a money making racket really) . So off i set all legal like to go get Milo and put her on the back seat. First time on a bike with a passenger.
We went to the shops and had a ride all the way round the island, it was really nice. Then we went to the supermarket and bought some stuff for dinner and some beer and wine.
Sausages, wedges, mushroom onion and toms all done on the BBQ, was a real treat. The first BBQ of the trip.
A bit rainy and widy, but still warm.
Took a ride round one of the inland roads today, this is such a nice island and so pretty. I don’t think we have been to a place that is quite so relaxed and chilled as rarotonga, and the people are all so nice and friendly, always with a big smile, but then who wouldn’t smile living in such a beautiful place
The lady that owns the place we are staying in is just like milo, but a few years older. She does yoga twice a week, likes oils, has candles and baths with a glass of wine, and she is so lovely, really helpful and thinks she is lucky to have lovely guests stay at her place.
Really enjoying the bike now, getting used to all this traffic, we went to the shops at 5:00 pm today and hit the rush hour, (there were 3 other bikes on the road). Nearly ran over a dog who just sat in the middle of the road and only just opened his eyes as we sped past him, think we woke him up.
It was washing day again today, so we will have nice clean bags when we go to Aitutaki on Friday.
We have heard that Aitutaki is even more chilled than Rarotonga, bring it on, can’t wait.
