We eventually picked up our car from Alamo after wasting 40 mins queuing when we didn't need to and having some stroppy woman to deal with, and in the end we got a Dodge Caliber , the worst car we have had so far. Still I have emailed Alamo to tell them what we think of them.
When we arrived in Monterey we had a bit of a problem finding somewhere to stay, then we saw a bank that was open and we still have some CANADIAN DOLLERS so we thought we would go in and change it and at the same time ask where there are some motels / cheaper hotels. Well the currency exchange didn't go well, she sad there was nowhere in Monterey where we could change currency, so my $25 went back in my wallet. so we asked if there was anywhere to stay in the area that was less than $300 a night, she said , No you will have to go to santa cruz, that was 30+ miles back up the road we had just driven down..... We sort of thanked her for her help and walked out the bank laughing loudly, quite rude of us but i think she deserved it....
anyway we did find a nice place for $79 a night, including Breakfast, just 5 mins drive from the bank with the dumb teller.
The coast line here is really nice we had a long walk and stood on the rocks watching sea otters in the kelp breaking open shells to get at the food inside, they are really nice creatures , so playful.
The town, Pacific cove (sort of a suburb of Monterey), is a bit weird , another steppford like place that seems to have loads of old people. Still we move on in the morning heading towards Los Angeles.
