So the day didn't start off good, alarm went off at 03:15, stupid o'clock, when we got our stuff together and into the taxi to go to the airport at Cancun, i was not feeling good. Apart from losing one of my crowns while eating dinner last night , i was feeling decidedly unwell and put it down to a dodgy prawn in the paella. just after arriving at the airport and queuing for 40 mins before they opened the check in desk, i had to visit the loo and was very sick... not good.
So the rest of the day was spent on 2 flights Cancun to Mexico city and then onto Denver, I just slept most of the time.
When we got to Denver the Spanish inquisition just didn't happen at the immigration desk, The people before us were Mexicans and i think the guy was just happy to get an English couple, his first comment was "ah good a nice easy one". So we told him where we were headed and he said have a nice day. Also no problems at the customs post, ( i did hide my Rasta beads though).
Eventually we managed to get our car out despite doing online check in to speed things up the girl at the barrier kept asking four our voucher and paperwork. She eventually called the boss over and we were on our way in our Subaru 4w Drive jobbie, and great fun it is as well.
the 70 miles to Colorado springs was uneventful with a quick stop at a starbuck's for a pastry and a black coffee.
The guy that runs the B&B here (St Mary's inn) is a bit special, he was ages drawing us maps and arranging our evening, he even phoned some white water rafting people to get us booked in for tomorrow, we didn't book it....But he did call a local dentist for me and i have an appointment for 09:00 in the morning.
The pictures of rocks are in a place called "Garden of the Gods", it was quite nice, we also had a walk round the old Colorado city, which was the mining capital in days past.
We are planning to go to Pike's Peak Tomorrow, it's 14,100 ft so could be a bit of altitude sickness going on, it will make a change from Paella sickness (so much for eating local)

Flights number 6 and 7
Airports number 7 8 and 9

and we are up to country number 5  USA, Costa rica , Belize, Guatemala and Mexico.

Off to Pike's Peak today, managed to get on the 12:00 train, and reached the top about an hour and 15 mins later. Quite spectacular ride up with some of the gradients at 25%, that is steep. On the top we were at 14,115 feet above sea level, that's high enough to give altitude problems, there was a man at the top with an oxygen cylinder just in case anyone needed it. I was fine , if you were wondering.

We made a little cairn on the top of Pike's Peak in memory of Beanne Leonard,  Maureen's Mum (and my favorite mum too) who passed away on the 23rd June,  we had a little cuddle and thought nice things about her wonderful and amazingly long life, she was 92 and a half years old.
Our thoughts are with all her and Gummy's children, grand children and great grand children, too numerous to count.

After we got down off the peak we drove west and south across the rocky mountains, it was a spectacular drive with some great scenery along the way. We were getting a bit worried about somewhere to stay the night as it was getting to 07:00 pm and all the places we saw along the road were a bit tacky to say the least. Then after 4 hours in the car we got to South Fork on the 160 and pulled into a roadside restaurant for some food (great burgers), right beside the restaurant was a place called Foothills lodge, and we got a huge cabin with two bedrooms for $65 for the night, and it is really nice.

Oh i nearly forgot, it is our wedding anniversary today, we have been married for 32 years.

And you will be pleased to hear i have had my crown cemented back into place, that cost me $57, i thought it was going to be more.

Tomorrow we have the rest of the drive across the Rockies,  our destination is Arizona and the grand canyon. Hope to be there for sunset.
