We are in Manuel Antonio now, the hotel is called el parador , the room is good, although they have given us an upgrade to a jungle room from the garden room we had booked. The problem is this place is so not us.... too big and to up it's own Ar*e to be wholesome.

Went for a walk to the local beach and it was really nice small wild and we were the only people there, they run a shuttle to the bigger beach 5 or 6 times a day, we could try it tomorrow.

For dinner this evening we had to book a table, then when we arrived at the time we had booked there was us and another table of 3 american guys, and that was it, nobody else arrived for the next 1 hour 30 mins, good job we booked....there was seating for about another 50 people.

The food is quite expensive, $20 for a main course was an average price, so add the taxes and you are looking at over 40 for 2 main courses, and the wine was $8 a glass, Thank god it was happy hour B.O.G.O.F. Wouldn't mind if the food was good, it wasn't. So we are onto trip advisor later.

Think we might get a cab into town tomorrow for some nosh.

At least it is warmer here and it's not rained since we arrived, although a lot of the areas we passed through today were really badly flooded, and rivers full to the brim and people wading through knee deep water outside their houses.

It's nice to see the pacific though as we will be crossing it in 2 months from now, after Belize and North America and Canada.

Update on the food situation, our really nice waiter who was quite upset we didn't like the food has just told us that we eat for free tonight, also while typing this one of the managers has just come to see us and has said that we can use one of the private dining areas tonight with candles and stuff, so we eat in style tonight....Perhaps we should hold fire on the trip advisor comments until after tonight's meal.

Next day....

Well what a night we had the 5* treatment, just because we complained a little that the, risotto wasn’t that good the previous night.

We had a private dining experience in the wine cave, loads of flowers all over the table and candles all over the place, sitting there surrounded by all these bottles of wine. The real treat was we didn’t have to pay for a thing, ( apart from our drinks). We had our own personal waiter and we had visits from the executive chef (a Canadian), and the manager of the restaurant, all asking if the food was ok tonight. It was, the food was top notch. The chef said that he had a day off yesterday and was really sorry about the risotto, they had saved a portion of it for him so he could see it for himself. He agreed it was not good, and it seems he made the junior chef make risotto 20 times during the day until he got it right, ( poor chef we felt sorry for him). Still it was a fine dining experience. So i think we might be a bit kinder on trip advisor that we might have been.

Off to visit the park in the morning , hope to see a sloth, really don’t care if it is a 2 toed or 3 toed.

Next day Friday

Weather a lot better today, no rain and quite a lot of sunshine.

We were up and out early to go to Manuel Antonio National park. We had read a couple of reviews about the park and were not really expecting a lot, and when the Iguana Tours bus arrived and the guy said that there were 18 in the group,i just thought the reviews were right. Well we couldn’t have been more wrong the park was great, within a few 100 yards of entering the park we saw the 3 types of monkey, squirrel, white faced capuchin and howler. There were loads of birds and lots of insects, the guide was really good at spotting the wildlife. The icing on the cake for me was the three toed sloth and we saw 2 of them. Do you know that sloths only poo once a week, and that is the only time they come down to the ground, also their bones are hollow that keeps them very light for their size. They also scratch a lot.

The park itself has beaches on it’s southern edge, these are really amazing beaches with white sand and mangrove trees.

At the end of the tour which was 3 hours, we all went to a bar along the beach and had some fruit and a drink, so well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We liked it so much, in the afternoon we got on the hotel bus and went back for another walk in the park.

Well i never did, all that rubbish about the wildlife park being so great and we get up this morning and have a sloth sitting in a tree just outside our balcony. Looks like he has been there all night Hope Saturday is his day for a poo :-0 . then we saw a white faced capachin as well, wait hold the front page the sloth has just moved. This is the best wildlife watching, they are so slow you have time to go wash have a coffee and type a blog before the next move that old slothy makes.

Sarurday
Just hanging around in a tree scratching my arse all day, no not me that is the sloth. He is still in the same tree, he has been up and down a couple of branches had some leaves to eat and had another scratch, what a life. Still not much different from us today, been to breakfast went to the pool sat on the balcony watching a sloth scratch his arse, what a day....:-)

Have managed to partially break my computer though, somehow I managed to drop a couple of drips of water into the touchpad last night(no laughing CJ) and since then the touchpad has been a bit touchy to say the least, now i think the left button and the touchpad have stopped working so I am using a mouse that i fortunately brought with me just in case.

Next day Sunday.

Report from sloth watch at manuel Antonio, not much to report, more scratching and just hanging around, doesn’t look like Sunday is poo day either. I just wonder who it was sat and watched a sloth for weeks to determine that they only poo once a week and they come down the tree to do it. Must have been a pretty boring month or so.

el parador is a really nice place to spend a few days, particularly when the sun shines. The hotel itself is a bit isolated at the end of a peninsular so you do really need to eat in the restaurant and pay their $4 a beer prices. Having said that the shuttle bus runs to the main beach every 2 or 3 hours so you can spend a few hours in there where there is a bit more competition for your $, and quite a good choice of places to eat.

Ma is gonna do some washing today so our bags are nice and fresh for our next destination Belize.

Next day Sunday

Sunday a day of rest, yea right! After a few hours on the beach we got all our smelly gear together and went to the laundry , and for $5 we got a wash and 2 goes in the tumble dryer and a packet of eco friendly washing liquid, what a bargain. So our bags smell clean and fresh again ready for our trip to our 3rd country, Belize, and we complete the 3rd week of our trip.

Costa Rica has been a great destination, the wildlife and the plants have just been fantastic, and the beaches have been stunning. The people have all been nice and friendly and very helpful even thought we don’t speak any Spanish. The language has really not been a problem here, all the drivers and people working in the locations we have been staying in have spoken enough English so we could get by.

El Parador turned out to be a good choice for our last destination in Costa Rica , despite our initial thoughts on this place , we have really enjoyed our stay here and the staff have been really great. So if you come to Manuel Antonio, stay at the  Paridiso hotel, i don’t think you will regret it.

Oh I nearly forgot we will be putting some good review comments on the trip advisor site, and the last update on the sloth, he is still up the same tree scratching his Ar*e.

sorry just a few mote sloth pictures, this time some close ups, one of the sloths came right down a tree just by our balcony, so i got some great shots, there were actually 2 sloths there up different trees. we were standing within 4 feet of this little guy at one point, he didn't seem worried about us at all.

Worth complaining then! Hope the free food was better than the expensive stuff, always surprises me how knowing the price affects the taste.
