Driving out of the 'quieter than a ghost town' Cossak we embarked on our relatively short two and a half hour drive to Port Hedland; uneventful all bar a near run in with a huge two metre lizard which decided to ignore the miles of open freeway and make a run for it between us and the truck in front.
Approaching the town we passed the rather large and unexpected Dampier salt mounds (PICS) and marveled at the salt lakes that were evidently supplying the continuous flow of sea salt from the giant crane.
We spent a short while driving around the centre of Port Hedland, which was covered in a fine coat of orange dust, courtesy of the gigantic iron ore works which dominates the town, before heading to the campsite for yet another swim and bed.
