After Ottawa and Gatineau, we ventured further into Quebec. We made a stopover in a town called Thurso, to visit Steph's Grandmother's grave, and we continued through the back roads until we reached Saint Jerome, where Genevieve, Steph's sister lives.  Steph wanted to show me a tradition from Quebec for this time of the year, the "Cabanne a Sucre" (or Sugar Shack, in English). Pretty much in places where they make maple syrup, people get together once a year to party and enjoy the wonders of Maple Syrup, with a dinner where everything that is served tastes good with this Canadian sweet stuff. The dinner was really tasty, although the Menu felt more like a breakfast (scrambled eggs, sausage, etc).  The experience can apparently vary significantly, depending on the place and time and group you choose to go with. The night we went there was a group of about 100 university students, so it was pretty lively. After the stop in Montreal, we continued to Quebec City. We stayed with Mathieu and Myriam. Mathieu is Steph's old travel buddy and Myriam is his girlfriend. The weekend we arrived to Quebec City was also the weekend when the Red Bull Crashed Ice was taking place. This was the last one of four skating races held in different cities around the world. For the raced they pretty much closed down all the Old Town of Quebec. Since the Old Town is located on a hill, it was the perfect set up for a downhill speed skating competition. So it was me, Steph, Mathieu and another 120 thousand people or so watched skaters passing by at speeds up to 80 kph. Between looking at the crowd, the sights, trying to pick up some of the French people were speaking and the --10 or so degrees of temperature, I didn't pay much attention to the race. Still, I got a chance to take some cool photos and pass one of the coldest nights I've been through (if you are Canadian, start laughing now). The next couple of days we spent them walking around the city under beautiful blue skies and spending time with Mat and Myriam. We also got to see the Mont Morency Falls (which were partly frozen), and then we headed back to Montreal, to actually spend some time in the city.
