I have promised myself that once I have recorded all my travels out of my home, the first thing I would like to do with Marija is go again to Jihlava. She agrees. It is not because the place is the oldest mining town in the Czec Republic (we had enough of mining and miners with Tatabanya) nor because it is a mark, a border between Bohemia and Moravia. I love Mahler, who grew up here, but that has only a tangential reference. The place is the European watershed of springs, wells, brooks and rivers which flow to different seas. But the actual reason for this feeling is a night spent in a village nearby with some of the finest human beings we have ever met in all our lives. They simply, very carefully, most tactfully, poured on us so much care and hospitality that I know we will never be able to re-compensate nor, even though I have tried, could match.
We were picked up on the outskirts of Brno. There were three women in a car, a mother Mrs.Olga Smekalova recently widowed, and her two daughters. They said they were traveling only half way to Prague but hoped that will be of help.
