Over the week, we have basically been taking it easy. Last Monday, we took a road trip to the capital, Port-Louis, to sort out the details for our trip to South Africa. We were getting a little worried because we already have reservations in Kruger National Park and the travel agent we spoke to in Grand Baie could not find a cheap flight. That all changed at the first travel agent we went to in Port Louis; we were able to find a special promo rate to SA on the dates we wanted. Once this was done we spent the day in Port-Louis we toured around and visited the famous public market and picked up some nice fruits and vegetables. We also went to the Museum of Photography, whose curator is my former Grade 6 teacher, Tristan Bréville. He is a professional photographer, historian and also an accomplished author. The museum was very nice and had quite an impressive photographic equipment dating back to the mid 1800's, including some Daguerrotypes from 1840.

Tuesday and Wednesday were both beach days.

We rented a car on Thursday, we went shopping at the outdoor market in Quatre Borne. I also went to Mauritius' only good bike shop and rented a good mountain bike. We then headed to my aunts place in Vacoas and visited with her for a bit. On Friday we drove South to Chamarel, a mountain top village whose claim to fame is the coloured earth, the volcanic earth has about 7 different colours (see photos). They've turned the place into a nice little park. It's one of those silly things that you have to do when you are visiting a new place (kind of going like to Magnetic Hill in Moncton, NB). Anyway, the drive there was very nice. On Saturday we drove down to Goodlands for some shopping. Goodlands is a village known for it's shopping, that's where the locals go to shop. It's main avenue is lined with all types of stores, the majority of them clothing stores. Melissa go some nice linen pants and top, Shaylagh got some shorts and some shorts for me.

On Sunday, we drove down south again to the Black River national park for some hiking and to see some wildlife (Shaylagh wanted to see some monkeys). The hike was very nice, unfortunately we did not see any monkey. However, did see some parakeets and some other interesting birds and Melissa, Shaylagh and Amelie took a dip in the river. It is a very big park and we also saw a small section of it. We'll have to visit again. (I will be adding pictures of the Park soon...).
