Where I stayed
No snow today but still a bitterly cold wind. However braved the icy conditions to visit the Statue of Liberty. Is was so cold and windy we walked around the bottom as quickly as possible, took some photos and returned to Manhattan (didn't bother getting off at Ellis Island as time was getting away and it was soo cold. Then caught the subway 'uptown' to the Empire State Building. This was a near disaster as the line seemed to go forever, not just outside but inside, into elevators, through security, more elevators (or stairs) and the wind was even worse (so cold on on one side your face went numb and it was difficult taking photos without taking gloves off. However the view was still quite fantastic. Then we had to queue again to get into the lifts to go down, down the stairs, and eventually back out into the street. The whole visit took probably close to 4 hours, at least 3 1/2 of those in lines. After a quick lunch and review of plans, Andrew headed off to exchange something at the Rockerfella Centre, everyone else decided to quickly explore Macy's. By this stage Christopher had had enough so he and Peter returned to the hotel. Glenda and Rebecca continued to explore Macy's, met up with Andrew at the M & M's store in Times Square, waited (yet again) to have tea at Planet Hollywood. Following a visit to Grand Central Station (which was very impressive and just like you se in the movies), headed back to the hotel via the subway. We seem to have mastered the subway quite well and it really is a good way to get around, there were even some who felt so comfortable tonight that they were fast asleep, blankets and all in our carriage.
