Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. day! Okay, so this isn't one of those holidays where you wish people a happy one and exchange gifts and stuff. But we have to give a shout-out to honor one of the most visible and celebrated leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, especially since we now reside in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia (well, not really IN the ATL, but close to it).

So, in honor of MLK, rather than go up to the mountain top, we decided to chill around the pool all day long. We're so grateful for sunshine today! Tanning at last, tanning at last, thank God Almighty, we're tanning at last! Very few clouds, lots of heat. And we're going to take advantage of every bit of it. We spied out the "land" and found the perfect spot to get the most exposure to the Jamaican sun right at poolside so we can watch all of the "interesting" people walk and swim by.

I walk over (although I could have swam over) to the poolside bar for a few drinks (pina colada and daquiri--there we go again, ordering the wrong tropical drinks for this island!). After a few hours of flipping over like pancakes to ensure an even tan, we decided to test the water. Man was it cold!!! It took me nearly 10 minutes just to get my entire body submerged in the icy waters. Then I had to coax Michael into the pool, and he walked on tiptoes through the water all the way over to the poolside bar. This was one of those things Michael said he's always wanted to do. Sit at a bar while in the pool. So there you have it -- another one of those lifetime wishes come true, thanks to the Globetrotters Make A Wish Foundation!

Just as we order Mai Tais, another couple wades over to join us and we strike up a conversation with them. They left the teenagers back home in Minneapolis so they could have a little "together time" in Jamaica. From the sounds of things, they're enjoying themselves -- a little too much according to the wife. The husband must have had a bit too much to drink the night before because he told her, "I think we should head back to the drunk, I'm room!" We shared a laugh at the husband's expense, chatted a bit more with the friendly couple, and then bade them farewell as we went back over to our tanning spot to catch the last bit of sun rays for the day.

After showering and changing, we enjoyed a leisurely light dinner, and then went back to the room to do something that is going to shock you all. I don't know what might be going through your minds right now. But what we did was............watch the second night of the season opener of the hit TV show "24". I know it is such a shame to do something as trivial as watch television while on a relaxing trip. It's so ........ "American"; so couch-potato-like. But we have both become hooked on this show (thanks to Michael's sister, Cynthia). And honestly, it was well worth it!
