November 9, 2005: We're just 30 days away from our trip of a lifetime: Cairo, Egypt. Ever since we booked the trip back in July, we've been pinching ourselves (and each other) to make sure we're not still just dreaming that this trip is really going to happen; that we're really going to Egypt, the cradle of civilization. And to think, Egypt wasn't our first choice for this year's international travel spot. We've both been wanting to do something different for Christmas for quite a few years, so we decided to look into a few interesting locations. Greece is too cold this time of year, the Orient would have been nice, but Michael has been there before and I wanted us to share one of those first-time experiences in a place neither of us have ever been. So there we were, searching the Internet-me from Atlanta, Michael from New Orleans-when we came upon this fabulous trip to Egypt. Immediately, we knew this was the one.

We've been preparing our minds for this trip for three months and I can't stop thinking about it. Three weeks abroad: 1 week in Cairo, 1 week cruising the Nile River, 1 week in Petra and Amman, Jordan (we'll talk about the recent bombings there later). We leave from icy cold New York and return there just in time for New Year's Eve. How long have I wanted to ring in the New Year in the Big Apple? And after our exciting New Year's experience last year watching the baby drop in New Orleans, we like to say we're going to celebrate New Year's Eve from the Big Easy to the Big Apple in one year.

Last month we decided that we'd better get our bodies ready for this Egyptian trek, so we got all of our inoculations. I needed the full gamut-Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, and Polio. Can you say OUCH! Okay, I'm being a big whiner (it really didn't hurt that badly). Michael only needed a Hep A booster because he traveled to Rio and Port Au Prince a few years ago and had to do the rounds then.

We've been making a list of items we'll need for the trip, and finally this past weekend we picked up a few essentials: TSA luggage locks, international electrical converter, full size toiletries so the two of us can share for almost an entire month. We even bough a new set of luggage. Why not?

So now, 30 days away we're still pinching each other, collecting best wishes and congratulations from friends far and near. They're excited for us. We're excited for ourselves, and looking forward to sharing highlights of this journey with everyone here. Take a look at our itinerary and see what we're anticipating. We can't wait!!! And we know you all can't wait to hear about our Egyptian adventure. So get ready, to come along.
