Well.. here's my first blog from the road. Let's see how this goes... I'm sure we'll get better with this with time.

Finally, last Friday October 6th, Mariela and I unhooked from our life in Seattle and hit the road in my van. The night before we opened up a bottle of the finest Guatemalan Rum - Ron Zacapa Centenario - to celebrate the upcoming adventure. We also shared some of it Friday afternoon with my ex-boss Brent and my co-worker Norm who thouroughly enjoyed the rich, sweet taste. We hit the road around 8:00 p.m. - a bit late, but we're not really in a rush to get anywhere  . One of our goals is to not rush anymore from place to place. We'll be taking things very easy from now on. There's too much rushing going on in this world and time just flies by so fast without us even realizing it. Now, we'll just relax and see where the road will take us.
That night we made it all the way to Eugene, OR, where we spent the 1st night. The following day we headed west towards the Oregon Coast, then south to Floras Lake, where we both got our first killer kiting session on flat water and 12m conditions (and Mariela on her 6m ) for about 3 hours. We spent the night at Floras Lake Campground to do some more kiting the next day.  On Sunday the wind started around 10:00 a.m. and blew until way past we left around 3:00 p.m. Although we were exhausted from kiting and the cool temperature at the Oregon coast, we had a beautiful drive down the Oregon Coast along Highway 101, into California, then onto Highway 1 (Shoreline Highway) where we spent our 3rd night in the comforts of the van and a view of the magnificient Pacific Coast. After making the wrong turn at some point, then having to back-track, and nearly 8 hours of driving along the super-curvy road (I think I counted more than 10,000 turns ) we arrived with dizzy heads  in San Francisco around 8:00 p.m.  today Monday. After checking the not-so promising forecast for the San Francisco Bay Area we decided to go a bit further and make it all the way to Santa Cruz. Tomorrow we'll try and visit Caution Kites in Santa Cruz to get some local insight on the weather. Maybe we'll be lucky and get a little session at Waddell or some place further South.

Till soon and remember to take your time ...!
Go big!
