Where I stayed
My Friend's Place
On entering Malaysia we headed straight for the port town of Mersing to catch a ferry to Tioman Island.
Arriving by boat you are greeted with palm fringed beaches and the interior of the island is completely covered in thick jungle. We decided to stay on ABC beach after meeting Bian in New Zealand, a local from the island, and he didn't let us down, ABC was a great spot, no traffic, except a few bikes, friendly locals, good food and warm swimming beaches.
We met an Ausie couple from our hostel the night before who were lots of fun, so we decided to stick together. On the first day we took a long swim in the crystal clear water to the next cove and then spent the rest of the day relaxing; the perfect island retreat!! We followed this pattern, swimming and relaxing for the next few days, checking out some of the other beaches around the island, which were possibly even more idyllic with large white sand beaches and turquoise water, but there was not much to do on land. But that was the beauty of the island, everyone is relaxed, there is no concept of time, you can just take it easy and wind away time. We finished off our stay on the island with a couple of dives in the crystal clears waters on reefs at small nearby islands, enjoying diving together for the first time.
