We have had two full days in Sydney and had no problem filling the time.  After a late flight Tuesday, we decided to sleep in Wednesday morning.  Once we got mobile we headed to Circular Quay (Sydney Harbour) and then walked over to the famous Mrs. McQuarrie's Chair.  The view of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House was something we had seen on postcards, magazines - stunning.  Of course we had to take pictures from every angle.

We had previously booked a tour of the Opera House at 5:00 p.m. so we didn't have too much time to just ponder and dream there.

Our tour guide took us into the Drama Theatre where Mel Gibson was discovered.  And as a teenager, Nicole Kidman sold programs just outside the threatre.  For a few minutes we watched a ballet dancer rehearse one of his numbers in the Opera Theatre and the orchestra was doing last minute preparations for that evening's performance in the Orchestra Theatre where the Sydney Symphany Orchestra  as well as well known stars perform..  The tour guide gave a very passionate and  informative history of  the Opera House and, immediately following the tour, we went to the box office to see if we could get tickets for that evening's performance, The Pig Iron People.  The attendant was really helpful and suggested we come back at 7:00 p.m. to get "rush seats" which were one-third the cost.  We sat three rows from the front centre stage!  The play was very humourous with a touch of seriousness.  The acting was superb.

Yesterday (Thursday) we walked over to Darling Harbour where we visited the Australian Maritime Museum where we were fortunate to be given a personal tour (no one else showed up) and then toured the Endeavour which is a replica of Captain Cooke's ship.  It is permanently stationed in the harbour with the exception of when they are touring the world once a year.

We met up with Ruth and Ed Baxter and their nephew, Aaron, for a delicious dinner at a restraurant right on Darling Harbour.  The evening was quite warm (about 25 degrees C).  It was great to see Ruth and Ed after 6 weeks and also to meet Aaron.

After dinner Garry and I along with Ruth and Ed took our final glimpse of the harbour at night.  It is so magical we had a hard time leaving it.

Right now we are in Air New Zealand's Lounge at Sydney Airport awaiting our long journey home.  It is 12:10 p.m. on Friday (Australian time).  Our time of arrival in Toronto is approximately 5:30 p.m. tonight (Friday).  Our flight has been delayed one and one-half hours.

Looking forward to seeing most of you soon.
