It rained today, for most of the day. It let up a little bit in the mid-afternoon, but mostly it rained. From what I've heard from Mid-westerners, this is fall weather. Meaning it shouldn't last, meaning typical summer weather, sunshine with bouts of thunderstorms, which I can handle, should come back soon.

Despite the weather, today was a good day. I am on a 100 mile bike path free from cars, traffic, and unsightly sights. The entire path is the connection between two bike paths in central Minnesota, the Central Lakes Trail and the Lake Wobegon Trail, and the trails take you off of I-94 and through beautiful lake country. The Lake Wobegon Trail is so named after Garrison Keillor's fictional hometown in 'A Prairie Home Companion'. I am a huge fan of the show and honored to ride on a path in the general area of Lake Wobegon.

Minnesota thus far has been a series of small towns with water towers. Liquor laws are similar to North Dakota, only convenience stores and bars can carry alcohol. This means that many people stop in bars for a moment to buy an 18-pack of something and leave. It changes the bar dynamics a bit because the door swings open so often, more sunlight, a reminder of the outside world. When you spend your life outside as I do, the comfort of being inside with TV and cushioned chairs at the end of the day is something to which I look forward. The daylight is an invasion of my relaxation space.

Which is not to say I would not welcome some daylight on a cloudy day like today. But everyone else's mid afternoon is my nightlife. The local's pregame is my game. When you wake up at 5am and the best part of the day is generally breakfast shortly thereafter, nightlife seems not only irrelevant, but an impossibility. It is laughable to imagine myself anywhere but my tent at 8:30pm, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Most days. But the day after tomorrow, baring any disaster, I will be in Minneapolis, a city about which I have heard nothing but good. I am currently looking into warmshowers stays in the area, and possibly some company for goings out and other frivolity. I won't be able to catch a Twins game, unfortunately, but I have some great recommendations and will do my best to complete the lists I'm given.
