Ben Gibbard is a ball-less maggot somewhere between a lazy activist and a successful suicide. He once berated someone at a concert I attended for getting onstage complaining 'this is our space.' But he can write a hook. He also plays the drums in that song, the only acoustic drumming on their only album, may they never write another..

Today, I approached the edge of the Cascades, with the final curtain dropping tomorrow. They do not end with a bang, as I'm sure few mountain ranges do, but rather descend into the high desert, a plateau around 1500' that spans until the ranges on the east coast. The heat intensifies as soon as the elevation dips below 2500' or so, and the last valley of the day between Okanogan and Tonasket was a drudging 18 mile slight uphill into the wind, enough to break most spirits at the end of an 85 mile day.

But not mine. I arrived to a bike-only campground (backyard) with local food (taco truck) and entertainment (fireworks stand) in the parking lot. A couple of beers and Fourth of July celebrations reminds me of home, a reminder I need not all the time, but often enough on a trip like this.

It looks like you are making good time. As you mentioned don't forget to stop and smell the tumbleweed. May the winds stay at your back. Rob

Jeeez Glenn,

Boy you making some time crossing the ol states. Washington sure looks pretty and you be getting lucky staying in backyards with laundry service, free food and maybe the farmer's daughter too? When's the roughin gonna start!
Biking up the pass sounds like a toughy but the combination of your bike shoes and long beard shall guide your spirits upward, over then beyond and past salvation. Welcome to the high desert bitch! Keep pushin
