tLIt's Sunday and I'm in Rome (finally!) my last stop in Europe before heading home via Singapore.

It's fine, sunny & hot.... and now I've cooled down a bit I'm off to find the Trevi fountain... ciao for now!

------------------------------
Rome in the sun, what a beautful place! The Trevi fountain is just more beautiful than ever; the Pantheon still amazing (how has that dome stood up all this time?); the Piazza Navona still as busy and as lovely as every! As everywhere it's a shame there are so many tourists.... ahhhh it just makes it sooooo busy!! I'm crossing my fingers all the tourists disappear before dusk as they did in Venice (I know... faint hope that is!!).

Now on to dinner and a walk around the sights at dusk. Ciao again!

---------------------------

Monday and Viv arrived from Melbourne. The poor thing didn't gete much of a chance to rest before I hauled her out on what is now known as the "Ciao bella Gleesiamo Roma Turismo" (I was called Gleesiamo
last night!) and we hit the sights.

First on the list was Fontana Di Trevi (now known as THE Fountain!) but first of all some pizza. We found the BEST place where the pizza was sold by weight, eaten standing up and was delicious!! Next we found THE fountain - and what a sight! I certainly can go back again and again. After the Trevi we negotiated the hoards of tourists and made our way to the Spanish Steps. Again swamped by tourists but OK to get some pics. Then we were off on the Rome Metro - an adventure in anyone's eyes! Viv ended up totally exhausted and not only wanting new shoes but also replacement letgs etc. I think our six hour express tour of Rome nearly did her in!!

Monday finished with dinner at a lovely restaurant where both had pasta and some nice Italian sparkling (Prosecco!). Before Viv fell asleep in her pasta we headed back to the hotel to sleep before hitting the tourists spots for my last full day in Europe on Tuesday!!

----------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday bright and shining again and we headed to Vactican City and St Peter's Basillica. The forecast was for 34c and far too hot for hours of queuing. I warned Viv the queues to get in to the Vatican Museum and the Basillica would be massive and it was only when we went to get off the train and everyone else got off as well that it sank in! We headed to St Peter's and on the way Viv got new shoes (yeah - she can keep up now!). Once we got close and saw the size of both queues it was easy to make the decision to take pic from the outside and leave it Viv to visit when she's on her own! Of course the forecourt of St Peer's is fab, the whole size of the place is massive and even with hundreds of tourists it still is not crowded!

Next stop Piazza Navona for more pics (and more tourists!). I did pick up that the fountain in the middle was done in 1638, represents the rivers from the 4 main continents known at the time! After Navona it was lunch (more pasta) and on to THE Fountain again. This time the crowd was crazy!! ALL my friends were there today so a few quick pics and we were out of there. Out last non-touristy thing to do was a ride in a tram from Termini station - where we went we have no idea but it was out in the suburbs. We saw how Rome lives and it's different! Totally different to home anyway!!

OK enough for now.... it's time to change for dinner and go out for my last night in Europe and Rome... ciao for now.
--------------------------------------
Dinner was great and always involved a bit of unplanned adventure! First we hit THE Fountain (Di Trevi) for a couple of late pics. The crowd was reasonable as it was pretty early. We then headed to a bar to introduce Viv to Arpero Spritz - funny looking bright orange alcoholic drink served with soda and ice. I had a Campari Spritz - the drier version of the same. Yummmmmm both drinks went down really well after such a hot day of playing tourist. After drinks we popped back to THE Fountain and the pre-dinner crowd was huge!!! THE Fountain was still fab!!! For dinner we strolled to the Spanish Steps and had a lovely dinner in a courtyard restaurant - bellisimo!! Of course now for the adventure! The train had been replaced by a bus - we followed the signs up through Spagna station for what seemed miles and many hundreds of steps to finally come out at Villa Borghese. Lovely as the villa is at 11pm at night all we wanted to do was get to the hotel. Finally the bus arrived and we went on a very scenic journey through Rome - via Venito was the best bit for sure! Finally we arrived back at the hotel at nearly midnight! Phew a full day of Gleesiamo Tourisma (or it could be call tight arse tourism - no entry fees, no queues!!). Now to pack for my flight to London then Singapore!!

------------------------------------

Wednesday and i'm off to the airport to fly to London then Singapore arriving Thursday. Sitting in the BA Exec Lounge - Prosecco is on offer (no Bolly to be seen!). Roll on Heathrow and Qantas Frist for a bit of pampering!!

Arrivaderci Roma.... for now anyway!
