We had three great days back in RI: two in Newport and then an evening up in Tiverton RI.  In this stop we had a chance to have dinner with some cruising friends and also scotched a tie up for a few hours at Brewers marina where we washed the boat down.  After the heavy seas coming in from Cutty Hunk, she needed it bad.

Our dinner with our cruising friends Chip, Kay, Jim and Marge was a great time to cap off the summer cruise and talk about the winter season in the Bahamas.  All of us have slightly different approaches but we all agree to meet up there next winter.  The restaurant we went to had a long wharf and we were able to stay tied up for the night despite the signs "no overnight dockage".

The next day, we shove off by 0800 and begin to make our way back to open ocean for the 60 mile trip back to Long Island Sound.  We had a great time in Sag Harbor last time.  This time we wanted to see more as we planned on renting a car and staying "put" for a few days.  I looked forward to this...staying at anchor and finding more about what being in the Hamptons was all about.

We arrived safely in Sag Harbor by 5pm and found the anchorage much quieter than when we were here two months ago.  With skies looking "fall like", it seems that many of the local boaters have begin to put away their boats for the season.  We took a prime spot in the anchorage outside the breakwater.

Over the next three days, we got to explore East Hampton and down to the great seashore on the far east end of Long Island.  The best part of the weekend was our trips to the various wineries in the area.  I had no idea that Long Island wines were of such good quality and that many of the wineries we so good.  While this is no Napa Valley, the are can produce good to very good Merlot and even Chardonnay.

We had picture perfect weather over the weekend, but that came to a wet halt on Monday as we returned the car.  It was time to go.
