We wanted to make a couple stops in Mass on the way up to Boston. Our friend, Jim F recommended a city called Marion Mass as he had a yacht club membership at the Beverly Yacht club. We left Newport by 9am in moderate fog. Ive known fog was part of this trip and this was our first real taste of it. So we leave the Newport inlet with the radar and a sharp watch. In an hour we were in the clear and the sky was beginning to open up.
We entered Buzzard Bay and could see some of the island east of us in haze. Later in trip, we would be going there but for now it was farther North to Marion.
We enter the area and see scores of sailboats tightly moored. We had made arrangements for a rental mooring so we were confident we had a place in the tight harbor. We found one treat: renting a mooring here meant they would come out with a launch and pick us up. No dinghy hoist and no hassle. This was a nice bennie.
It was 3 pm now so we wanted to explore the little town before it got too late so we were in the launch by 4. We found Marion to be the picture book small town: tree lined streets, side walks, a general store and lots of waterfront. We walked around for two hours and got a little exercise. Marion is a great little town...very quaint and no restaurants. So we at on the boat.
The next day we opt to stay aboard, read the paper, watch TV. A late afternoon hike and that was it. Two quiet days in a quaint New England village. This is all part of it.
