Awesome omlette brekkie across the road at the Landmark Cafe. Just what was needed for the day's adventures ahead.

Our trusty map led us down Broadway on foot - definitely the best way to experience this city. We stopped in at a few shops on our way, and earmarked where we would like to return to when we did our shopping for the trip. Jeans and shoes the items of most interest.

We found our way down to the financial district, visiting the Ground Zero site which was mostly fenced off for construction of the 9/11 memorial, due to open this September. Wall St is just a little street, home to the New York Stock Exchange but not much else. Of course there were some obligatory photos here.

We then headed down past the Raging Bull statue into Battery Park. hoping to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty. It was a moderately hazy day, but we still managed to see across the water to Ellis Island and the Statue. Continued walking around the waterfront to Pier 17, where there are a range of market stalls and tourist businesses.

Starting to feel tired from the heat and the walking, we decided to head back towards the hotel via Chinatown. We stumbled upon the neighbouring village of Little Italy, which is where we found ourselves stopping for a well-earned drink. Little Italy has definitely been the highlight of this city. Cafe Napolitana where we snacked on antipasto and quenched our thirst, the next little bar we drank at - until Bridgy forced us to leave because Trish put Johnny Cash on the jukebox, Mambo 'taliano Piano Bar and Restaurant where we had the most amazing dinner. The whole atmosphere of the place is amazing, and a must see if you go to New York.

And as we discovered, all within a short walking distance from our hotel. Which was great, because by the time we were ready to head home to bed, we didn't have far to go. We stopped on the way to get a couple of supplies and then Trish and Bridgy joined us in our room for a nightcap.

Fantastic day, and I love this city!
