What I did
Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Gardens
On Sunday night, I surfed the net for a cool Memorial Day event. Found this thing in Garden Grove, CA called the Strawberry Festival. As if the strawberry shortcake wasn't enough temptation to convince me to go, there was also a link for their "Redhead Roundup". A contest for redheads! How awesome. I figured I would at least go and watch (and possibly get discovered - ha.)
Woke up Monday morning and got ready, did my hair (duh) and drove 25 mins south to Garden Grove. It was a great fairgrounds and I was grabbed up by a mom with an adorable redhead daughter who told me I better enter the contest, at least just for fun
After that I drove back to the hotel, played around with the cats, and cooled off a bit. I decided I still had some energy and wanted to explore some more. By the way, thank God (or Al Gore, or whoever) for the INTERNET! Seriously, how did we do it before? I found a website for a place to go horseback riding (www.western-trails.com) that looked awesome. I had also seen a sign for a drive-in movie theater and looked that up too. Both of them within 20 minutes of me!
The trail ride was at 6:30 in Norco, California - apparently known as Horse Town, USA. There are trails through the entire town where you can ride your horse to the store, bar, or wherever else you like. So amazing! (Lin, you would LOVE it here.) The ride has some gorgeous sights, mountains around it, bamboo that grows 20 feet high, and such great peace and quiet. Love my horse, Missy. I will definitely be going back there
From there I went to the drive-in. $7 for a double feature, Avengers + Dark Shadows! I've seen Avengers already but wanted to go again. Good thing I had already seen it though - I was so comfy in my car with my snacks that I was falling asleep! Needless to say, I'll have to see Dark Shadows another time. I didn't even try to stay awake for that one, I just left after Avengers. And after giving the guy in the SUV in front of me a jump. (You listen to the movie on a random radio station in your car - guess his battery couldn't take it).
Look, thats only yesterday and I've already written an essay! Sheesh! Also, I think I'm running out of adjectives to describe everything here. Amazing, beautiful, gorgeous, cool, awesome...if you have any suggestions for new ones, please comment. Otherwise I'm just gonna start using "totally dude" every time I need one.
Ok, quick about today, I went to the Botanical Gardens. Its 84 acres of land; the largest native botanical garden in the state. And it has the wildest [read: totally dude] plants and animals. See pics for more.
Seriously?!?! Totally, dude.
