We got to Johnson City at about 830 last night. Settled into the room, grabbed burgers from Five Guys, and before we knew it, it was 11pm! (ok, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on HBO may have had something to do with it).

Although it was really rainy for 6 of the 8 hours of driving, we did get to see some beautiful spots in the Shenandoah Valley. Got a few cool pics of the sun coming through the clouds after the rain.

The cats survived the first day pretty well, but they were sure mad at me when I finally let them out of the carrier last night! Then I feed them a whole container of food, and they remembered why they love me. Wait til they realize that they don't get to eat this morning...and that they have to go back in the carrier for another 7 hours. Should be interesting.

Oh yes, I bet your wondering what my new first was! Driving for four hours straight? Nope. Not eating for the entire drive? Nope. (Wait, do you know me? I was eating every hour on the hour. I have a fantastic Snack Bag O Goodies, duh.)

No, this was much more ironic and much less fun than a bag of crab chips.

Hey dad, remember that time yesterday morning when I was about to leave on the trip, and you said "Have you thought about getting a radar detector?" And I was like "Dad, I'm about to leave. If I say yes, what are you going to do?" (this is really our exact conversation.) Dad: "Go to Radio Shack and buy one!" And here ensued a response from me to the effect of: "I don't need no stinking radar detector/I'm about to walk out the door now/I'm already behind on time/Rob and I are good drivers/I've been driving for 10 years and never got a ticket."

This conversation was replaying in my head as I saw the hidden cop pull out after me on 81 South in Virginia. Oh yeah. 83 in a 70. Of course the time I don't have the cruise control on and happen to be breezing along enjoying the patches of sun, here comes Mr Cop to ruin my day. Oh well. At least I made him feel like a complete idiot - after he gave me the ticket, he was like "you kids going back to school?" And I say "No. Moving to California." His response : "Oh." (Yeah, so don't you feel silly.)

Anyways, here's hoping for a better (read: ticket free) day full of sunshine! Were going to Memphis! Great food and meeting up with 2 of my best girlfriends. Can't wait.

Rob says hi. I'll let him write on here one of these days.
