What a mission to get here, it took 27 hours, 24 of them travelling, four buses (as it doesnīt come here directly we had to go via a few places) and then a 2 hour ferry ride, the hostel thought we werenīt going to make it!
This place is fantastic, i loved Florianopolis but this place...
Its a little island 150 ks west from Rio, no cars on the island, no banks, atms, or tourist information and one satalite internet with prices to match.
The night we arrived we were stuffed but as we drifted off to sleep a tropical thunder storm set in with thunder and lighting as someone in the town center (if you can call it that) played Brazilian drums
The next day all Tim wanted to do was hike over to brazils most beautiful beach, a 3hr hike one way through rainforest where we saw squirals, beautiful birds and butterflys and heaps of hummingbirds, Tim even saw a giant lizard, past heaps of other beaches it was a long day and I was still tired from the mission of getting here!
We had another storm that night it was amazing.
The next day, our last full day we used the hostels kayaks and headed out for a paddle, we paddled around 4 beaches until we came to one near empty and enjoyed a swim with the fishes and starfish, heaps of fishes! next we headed around even further until we found a beach all to ourselves passing stalk birds on the rocks and more fishes.
We had a quick swim but the sun was strong and it was time to head back, as we neared our hostel Tim started yelling at me, as i paddled up to him a sea turtle swam underneath me, he was huge, right outside our hostel, so we raced the kayaks back and headed quickly in to town and hired some snorkels and headed back to the hostel, we had fun swimming around our hostel seeing lots of fish but no more sea turtles, we had a break and then headed to the closest beach 1 minute from our hostel and had another go, lots of fun the sea felt like a warm bath which is good because im no good with cold water
That night another storm hit in and somehow we managed to wander into the tv lounge in time for the first eposide of the second season of Desperate Housewives, we couldnīt say no to a bit of tv!
The next day we had the mission of heading to Rio de Janeiro, as early as we could as the Rolling Stones would be playing a free concert sometime that night, we met some aussies who also needed to get there as early as possible as there hotel was in copacabana where the concert was being held and the rumour was streets would be shut down in order to get ready, we all looked into getting a private boat to take us, as the ferry wasnīt leaving until 10am then we still would have a 3 hour bus ride to deal with, they decided at 7am they would head to the center and see if any fishermans boats were heading in, that we could catch a ride with, at 7.30 we were awaken with them knocking on our door saying a boat was outside our hostel ready to go if we wanted to come with them. Fantastic, off to Rio
