Today's trip took me up South Dakota to North Dakota.  The road was a two-lane with little opportunity to pull off.  I had the same type of situation yesterday.  I set my camera shutter speed to fast and shot photos out the window.  The photos are actually not bad.

I've shared a few of  these "drive by" photos taken this morning showing rain in the distance.  Like many parts of the country this area needs every bit it can get.  I have to admit that I really like the pattern of shadow and light I get from the clouds.

Once I hit North Dakota the sun was out in full force.  The temp was expected to be in the upper 90's.  It seems parts of North Dakota have had more rain as fields were growing.  I really like the sunflower fields (see photo)

As I was driving along I-94, not far from Bismarck I saw something on the hill in the distance.  As I got closer I realized it was a cow.  The sign at the exit stated that the cow was the largest known statue of a cow.  There is nothing else in this town of New Salem.  Cute idea.

Once I got to Bismarck I decided to check out their Heritage Museum.  There is a lot of history in these western states like N.D. from pre-historic fossils to Native Americans to early settlers.  I shared photos from the museum exhibits.

They have a statue of Sakakawea who traveled and helped guide Lewis and Clark.  Her granddaughter actually posed for the statue.  They had in the museum illustrations on how the statue was created.  Sakakawea imagine has been a symbol in North Dakota.

Well tomorrow I'm off to Bemidji MN.  Bemidji is the first city west of Mississippi so stayed tuned to what I discover about this city.  It looks like it will be some nice landscape in the area for sure.
