yesterday when we were at the tourist information we saw a brochure about a wild flower festival in the small town of Bohinjska Bistrica, celebrating the beginning of the spring, so we change our plans. instead of going to Ljubljana in the morning we will go to this festival and then take a train back to bled. we new that the train runs in a very scenic route. according to the brochure the festival include a Local Craft Market and a Traditional Slovene Folk Dances and its going to be in the local market square.we thought -a folk festival is one thing you want to experience as a tourist.
well - don't believe everything you read. we get of the bus right next to the tourist info and got in to ask for directions. they gave us a map of the town (which i think is smaller than the kibbutz i live in) and show us the way. turn out that the "market square" is really just a parking lot in front of the local supermarket, the "Local Craft Market " is just a few tables with some homemade food and drinks and the "Traditional Slovene Folk Dances " is just 4 couples and an Accordionist and all with people coming out of the supermarket with trolleys full of today's shopping. disappointment? not really. it was in a way something like the way we celebrate holidays back home. not being the big festival we expected but small domestic party. almost like being invited to a family party or so.we went to the train station waiting for our train and just in time to see the car train leaving. instead of taking the long way around the mountains or get stuck in the winter when the snow block the ways there is a train that start at Bohibj, working as a ferry crossing the mountains in a series of tunnels. you get on the train with the car, Anchored to the carriage and the train take all the way to the south. the office of this train look like it was,i think, back at the 50's. with only an army field old telephone and a notebook.
on the way back to bled was another one of those moments that make traveling by public transportation the best way to travel. in to "our" cabin came an elderly lady with big bags. we helped here to put them on the shelf and offer here some water. a few minutes later we open a package of mint and offer here one. she spoke only Slovenian and the only words we now are good morning and thank you, but in a few minutes we became friends and than she open one of the bags and gave us some cherries she picked from here garden and bringing to here son (or grandson, not quite clear) and it was the best cherries we ate - ever. get down at bled station, wave good by to that lovely lady, and walk around the lake to bled town. in the rain.get to the apartment wet but happy. left a thank you note to maja and left bled for the lust time on the way to Ljubljana.
there is not much to tell about our first day in ljubljana,  we found our hostel quite easy, not far from the train station, took a shower and went down for a little walk, just to get lost a beat, not folowing the tourist sights but wondering around.get into a fire and police rescue drill, into a teenagers party at the tivoly park, and finished our tour at a pizzeria on the river bank, where we share our pizza and wine with a floke of sparows. back to the hostel to make some loundry and good night-sweet dreams.
