I actually started my bike ride a bit later than normal. Usually, I've been on the road by around 7 am but today I actually slept in.. and did not start my ride until shortly after 8 am.
I rode to the left of the road where we are staying.
The main road is pavement. I was talking to a local who informed me that the road has only been paved for approximately 2 years. Before that, the road was dirt and rocks. Even though the main road is nicely paved, the side roads are still rock and dirt. The paved road is nice and smooth but it allows to cars and trucks to go quite fast on it
I mainly stick to the main road but today I took a side road to see what it was like. There weren't any cars on the road driving, which was a bonus but the road is very bumpy. So, your decision - the dirt and rocky roads with hardly any vehicles but bumpy or the nice smooth pavement with tons of cars swerving around you... Take your pick!!! :)
After my morning ride, I headed back to the cottage to have something to eat, talk with Joanne and snuggle with Chiquita on the hammock. There is nothing like enjoying time on a hammock - swinging your time away... la di da ... :)
Oh wait a minute.. I almost forgot something. I did do something in between my bike ride and the hammock. I was riding my bike when I heard music from the church that I had took a picture of the previous day
So, anyways, it was currently a little after 9 am. I figured I'd go back to the cottage, put better shorts on and get a little bit of money for a donation. I made it back to the church just before 10 am and the service was already going. I went in the back door and sat at a pew.
There were only 7 people in the congregation (2 men, 1 woman, 1 little girl and a couple from Holland). There was also the minister and the guitar player. There weren't a lot of people praying in the church today.
I'm not a religious person at all - in fact I am an atheist. I just thought it would be interesting to experience a church service in Costa Rica. I'm open to experiencing new cultures and believes.
The service was all about singing. The minister spoke few words.
In between songs, the man (who he said was from Holland) came over to ask me if I spoke or understood Spanish
So, like I wrote before, I then headed back to the cottage to rest, have a dip in the pool and a drink.. or two of beer with my clamato juice.. yum yum.. :)
After relaxing for a short while, I decided to go for a walk to the beach. I thought it would be nice to walk along the sandy beaches.. not too far from the cottage. It was really nice. There were lots of families on the beach.. enjoying a Sunday afternoon at the beach. I walked, took breaks and in between took pictures
I went for around a two hour walk. I then headed back to the cottage to see how Joanne was. Turns out she was on the bed and she informed me that a caterpillar bit her and she was not feeling good. We then went down to the veggie restaurant and the owner called a local doctor who brought her some leaves. I guess this is supposed to make her feel better. She needs to boil the leaves and then drink the liquid.
The owner of the veggie restaurant has a lot of faith in this doctor. She says he has cured people with cancer. She said he has this full body treatment for $100 and when people are done - they feel amazing. I don't really think he cures cancer - but who am I to judge... When you have cancer and the doctors back home give you no hope... I am pretty sure you will try almost anything to live.. If he helps people.. who have no hope.. then I guess that is good for his patients.. You have to be in that situation to really know to what extent you will do to live..
We are still at the veggie restaurant.. typing away at our blogs... It is still light.. but once it gets dark, there are no lights here.. so you are in the complete dark... I don't think I will stay late tonight...
Adios for now.. :)
