Goodbyes are something I struggle with and the longer they are, the less I can cope with them. I've found that the best way to say goodbye is to do it while completely hammered.  At the end of another busy week and a wonderful, happy holiday, Angie, Derek and I went to a house party in Brighton on Friday night followed by my farewell barbecue at Angie's on Saturday night.

The house party had a Greek theme so Angie & I dressed Derek up in a toga and he looked pretty swish. It was his first, proper house party. The next day was a mad rush to get everything ready for the barbecue which was a perfect way to say goodbye to everyone.  It was also a celebration of my friend Mandy F's 35th birthday.  We had a really lovely turnout and most people spent the gorgeous Summer evening sitting in Angie's beautiful back garden.  I had a few friends down from London, including Andy & Sharon, and I managed to stay very drunk but awake until 2am.  The next morning a few of us had coffee and croissants together amongst the piles of empties before I rushed off to the station in the rain to get the train to Gatwick. I kind of lost it when I had to say goodbye to Angie and again while speaking on the 'phone to Roger at the airport. I will miss England and it's rolling hills and interesting people and the party culture, but most of all I will miss my amazing friends who have helped make me the person I am today and have kept me in an exceptionally good mood throughout my whole holiday. I have promised to return every other year and Roger and I hope to meet in Thailand next year.

The return flights home were quite dreadful as I had to sit near screaming children on all three flights.  I was also awfully hungover and worried about Derek who had to go in the hold.  Derek's arrival in Melbourne was quite embarrassing when his head came off at the airport and the baggage carousel had to be stopped to retrieve Derek's head. He made it through quarantine with no problems and accompanied me home to find my dog and house both in very good order thanks to Harry. Derek's head has been stuck back on.

So this ends my holiday and this travel blog. I hope you've enjoyed my words and photos and that it has inspired you to live life to the fullest and to love your friends.
