Days to weeks, weeks to a month. the time has flown but the work drags and continues everyday. As the novelty wears off so too does the excitment and, at first, what I thought were different jobs are actualy the same, wheelbarrowing an item from A to B. Sand, gravel, soil, hay, all kinds of shit and sometimes even shit. Overall it is an experience working here at Daintree, however with a month just passed my spirit wants to wonder but here I stay and with no car I am cadged, both mind and body.
Restbite comes at 1300, when its time to knock off, then again it is at this point that I am greeted by a passive agresive cow, who, when encoradged with a few beers, trys to unsuccessfuly hide behind sarcasm. I recognise this is from my first couple of weeks. Trying to find the work pattern for our appartment, I may have seemed quite lazy but through this I have picked up and joined in. However her remarks and attitude pick away, for the only reason I bite my tounge, is her boyfriend, Nathean, who I get on and can have a laugh with, however like partners upset her, upset him. I do not wish to upset the apple cart and with them being from Sommerset, this would be a very bad thing indeed. So for now I'm quiet, I think back to the times I poked and teased my family maybe this is my comeuppance. Karma for the time being.

The grind begins, an early wake, dressed and breakfast, work the top half. Feeding, cleaning, sweeping and washing. Then the sorting of the bins and all before 0930. Smoko (our half hour break) then back to finish the bins and on to any duites that need to be done. singing and talking to myself hgelps pass the time. I long for the periods when I'm needed in the yard. For the moment Nathean is construcing a shed. Around two stories high, help is needed when assembiling the gurders but for the most part it is Brad that is asked, however, on this day both of us are aksed. We fix, bolt and screw the parts together, then with Gil on his, rather old and used, crane lifting it up, Brad and I swing the legs into posistion and then it is lowered and bolted down. First one done we move onto the next, fix, bolt and screwed into place Gil moves in and lifts. As we move the legs in place, the frame suddenly shudders, Gil calls out. Shouting at us to move. I take a step back thinking the crane may have just jamed up but within moments and with Gil still shouting the frame crashes down. Just missing a car on a hoilst. Inches past Brad and I. A loud clang rings out followed by complete silence. Shocked by what could have been we all laugh in disbelieve, everyone is safe and unhurt but with this I feel enormous pressure on my foot, I look down to see that the frame is resting on top, asked if alright, I reply 'tis but a scratch.' and with a wiggle of the toes and a rotation of my ankle I asses that nothing is damaged. So what happend? We gather to the crane, at full length and with the weight of the frame, a bolt had snaped, seporating the crane from the motor causing the whole thing to collapse.

I now believe it is 2-0 to me, Australia wants me harm but for the moment I'm winning.
The drama carmes, both in the yard and in our housing, maybe Rachel has now seen that I'm helping out, maybe the fact that today is the day Brad moves on or maybe the thought that in two weeks it will be their time but whatever the reason, peace has accended and I can enjoy the time after work. For which I past time watching seasons on the laptop and, with some paints, I enjoy an hour or so experimenting with subjects I would'nt normaly use. Cooking, taking naps, night feeds all become part of the daily slog and once agin the days past.
12/3/14
I have been at the zoo for the longest time, out lasting my time at Globtrotters over christmas, My desire to move is at an all time high, however, the thought of completing my 2nd year visa and enjoying the sweet taste of my first beer, from the zoo, whilst in the company of my twin and brother-in-law out weighs any craving to fly.
Trying to keep my spirits high, I begin to plan my time after here, booking a flight to Alice Springs I have somthing to look forward too once Maria and Pail leave for NZ. It is upon this time that I hear, I may have to leave earlier than I thought. More helpers are arrving in April and as I did'nt mention a definite finish date, they could'nt rest on me to stay so booked more people. Hoping I can stay, through the blood, sweat and tears, it is better the devil you know.
For the moment though it is on with the job.

Wake-up, bins, breakfast, clean, sweep, hose, finish
If this were a movie it would be glossed over within a minute. showing a timelapse to portray months of the same work. this would gradually fade into a establishing shot of Cairns showing that I have finish and moved on, however life can not timelapse. I find myself working through each day as fast the anyother. Helping in the yard a pig is droped off and it is once again time to feed the crocs. My turn to cut and slice the legs off. I quickly sharpen the knife scrapping it up and down, then with one easy fluent movement I dive into the flesh. slicing through the skin, fat and muscle, I get to the bone. Crunch goes the joint as I tug the leg in the opposite direction inwhich is intended to go. Feeling like a caveman (with a beard to match) I quickly cut all the legs and move on to the head. I start at the neck and work through to the spine. The knife is put down, I grab the head with both hands and twist, one full rotation later it soon pops off. Learning from the last time, the corpse is ditched quickly before any smell, any flys, any tastes.
The crocs wait in anticipation, they must be hungry, one leg, two leg, a snap and both are gone. The big sheila jumps up and crashes into the fench, then goes for another jump missing both times to catch the bait, she slinks off gnaring at the legs she picks up off the ground.

Well and truley settled in, even Rachel has backed off and we now both enjoy a joke with each other. It maybe the arrival of a new couple, British again, and a few days after two French. Altogether 8 of us, so plenty to take her mind of what I'm doing and onto someone else. Peace at last and with the t.v. broke there is alot of peace, we actually  have to talk with eachother, that is is until we find dvds which we can borrow.
17/3/14
The sun streaming down, showing every colour green of the rainforest, the deepest blue in the sky. After work we escape the heat by jumping in the pool, the cool waters washes over any stress, soothing the body from any aches, I float, getting lost in the blue, I am in pure relaxation mode and this is only uplifted by the information, which Gil shared with me, I am able to stay, for and into April. This is a great relieve, I am able to work, complete the 2nd year and then go enjoy my travels in the knowledge I can go where I want, when I want.
