Where I stayed
I didn't get out of the office much today except to go across the street with the guys to a French style lunch place. Panini, tuna and cheese panini, that's what I had and essentially it was toasted sub bread with tuna and a slice of what looked like American cheese. Not quite what I've seen at Panera.
Yesterday though we did take a boat ride to Po Tai Island and then around the island of Hong Kong. The "junk" ride was quite interesting and I'm glad I was wearing my magic bracelets since the ocean was a bit on the choppy side. There were a couple of times when I was a bit queasy, but all in all I held it together quite well
Given that there isn't much land to develop a great deal of the buildings just go vertical and you can see that by some of the pictures. There is no such thing as urban sprawl here, it is more like vertical sprawl. Even though there isn't any sprawl, there is a great deal of pollution and there is this haze that covers the city that makes cities like L.A. and Denver look pretty normal. When we first arrived, I thought there was a fog rolling into the city, but the gentleman we are working with just said, "That's not fog."
So for all those environmentalists complaining about American cities being smoggy, they really haven't seen smog until they've been here.
I guess we'll be moving from the Lan Kwai Fong Hotel this Friday to a flat that's about 15 minutes walking time to the office so we'll see how that turns out. It was pointed out to us in passing but with all the high rises here, it is easy to lose one building from another.
Weather has been great though, we've been in the mid 70's I believe so nothing hot or humid.
I do know where some of the bars are, and for the most part taking the taxi is somewhat of an art if not a big lesson in communication. *laughs*
That's about it for now, more entries to come, but in the mean time, enjoy some of the pictures. More can be found at: photos.yahoo.com/g_squared_69
