Where I stayed
Our [first] stay in Amsterdam was quite brief, only 1.5 days. However, we did a lot of walking around the city centre. Our day started off by going to the Sex Museum which provided a lot of food for thought to say the least and some images we both wish we had not seen. The museum even had umm, photos, from a private collection dating as far back as 1860 showing people in some rather compromising positions. Your great-great-great-grandfather or grandmother might not have been as innocent as you thought. By day posing for family photographs in their Sunday best, while at night.....Yecccchhhhhh.
We visited Anne Frankīs house, which was a powerful experience (Devorah was also intrigued that Anne Frankīs motherīs maiden name was Hollander!). The weather in Amsterdam was quite terrible. It switched between showers and rain often during the day and as a result of long walk to a museum that didn't really exist anymore, we got utterly drenched.
As with anyone visiting the liberal city that Amsterdam is, we took a wander through the red-light district. It needs no introduction or explanation. Use your imagination. And then we went to Bergen Op Zoom....
---------------------------------------------------------------------
What can we say about Bergen Op Zoom
Its definitely not the town of doom
The pleasant surroundings were quite a surprise
And despite our trepidation did not lead to our demise.
It wasn't our intention to come to this town
But alas! Accommodation in Amsterdam could not be found
Easter approached and we had nowhere to go
We called every hostel in Holland but they all said no
Finally our luck took a turn for the good
A place 2 hours south of Amsterdam said that they could
Take us on board over the festive season
And our brief stay was more than just pleasin'
Our days were spent reading, sleeping and walking
At night we were glued to the bar, drinking and talking
The Stay Okay staff kept us laughing like mad
With topics ranging from tax, beer, rabbits and fads
We caught a free ride back to Amsterdam
The car was small but we managed to cram
So there you have it, our stay "in the zoom"
Left us refreshed and ready for our travels to resume
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The rest of our stay in Amsterdam was spent walking around seeing the sights. While Amsterdam as a city is certainly interesting and very different to anything we have seen so far, its unfortunate that it is "plagued" by so many people going there for the sole purpose of doing drugs.
Onto Spain....

Amsterdam
Just love the bike pub! Should try and start it it Wellie! I've been to Amsterdam. The Anne Frank visit was extremely memorable and gave me an eerie feeling. The Red Light District - can't comment on the grounds it might incriminate me.
