A pretty shaky start of the day since I was getting more and more nervous by a minute. We leave half an hour later than planned, as certain Pedro gets lost in time and space, and make our way towards the river. Me and another 7 locos get dropped off on a way while the rest of the group continue to La Fortuna. We get picked up by the local adventure company (all arranged by our tour leader) - three rafting guides and a driver who claim that we're going bungee jumping (!!!). They are lucky we weren't.

On the river, Luis explains all the commands while our boat is hanging off the rock... LEFT FORWARD, RIGHT BACK, DUCK, JUMP OUT! Whaaat?! Who is listening?? LET ME OUT!!!

But as soon as we get going, we are soaked and... we are the happiest people in the world! Not being able to contain our excitement, we laugh and scream and paddle paddle paddle! Luis can't contain his excitement either as every rock brings 'OH MY GAAAAD!' out of him. Definitely some of the best three and a half hours of my life. I get pulled out from the boat head first by our rafting guide for no obvious reason and we are tricked to walk up the cliff where we find out that there is no other way back, except jumping down into the river! Once in a river, the stream appears to be much stronger than me and I need to be saved with a rope. How embarrassing... Never mind, we enjoy some mouth watering fresh fruit and jump back into the boats for some more fun down the stream.

After a well deserved lunch with humming birds we continue to La Fortuna where the rafting guides serve us some nice (and very strong) cocktails in their office before we move on to natural hot springs of Arenal volcano. Total relaxation as we float in warm waters in stunning surroundings and enjoy music, drinks and company of our fellow adventurers. We then inhale a three course meal and it's...party time!!!

The bars in La Fortuna are open till late (well at least one is) and you should like dogs because they come there too. Lava Lounge has good food, football and live music - great place to hangout. When that closes, all the barmen, rafting instructors, rappelling instructors and us go to One Love that's supposed to be reggae bar. It isn't though, but has music, is opened 'till late and everyone's there (including the dogs). We meet all the coolest kids, including Esteban and his Sausage (that's his dog's name!!!), and hang out till the morning hours. If only we knew what was waiting for us the next day...

Adventure tour Costa Rica Quest (including all transport and accommodation) operated by G Adventures, booked through STA Travel.
