What I did
Hiked the free ruins with Couchsurfers

Ronald had never been to Ollanta so we decided to go on this Sunday and we happened to be hosting a couchsurfing couple, Greg and Nozomi. They had gotten to Ollanta the night before because they´d gone to Machu Picchu and they had already hiked up a little bit...and we all preferred free ruins to expensive and crowded ones, so we went up a different hill.

After we finished with the ruins we walked down around the town and found a stand-alone doorway in the middle of someone´s field so we went and took pictures there before exploring the ancient city a bit. Just in case you don´t know, Ollantaytambo is the only inhabited Incan city. It's really pretty and relaxing apart from the hoards of tourists. The original architecture is spectacular. You can also take the train from here to get to Machu Picchu and the famous Inca trail begins nearby. When I went in 2009 we stopped there for breakfast and arrived at the crossing bridge for the trail about 15 minutes later.

While the four of us were walking around we encountered a soccer game! We only stayed for a bit but I thought it was nice for them to see how at any event there are women selling dinners and they store them in a pot or sack and wrap them with blankets or heavy sacks to keep the warmth in. Those women are always there along with the beer vendors (yes, of course they're kept in water to "chill" them).

It started sprinkling so we decided to head back to Urubamba.
