Where I stayed
10 Miles from PAckwood
We decided to stay another day near Packwood in another RV park closer to the road to Mount St Helen's. We enjoyed the day going to Mount Rainier, we decided we were so close to Mount St. Helen's that we had to visit.
30 years ago, we were living in Minitonas, Manitoba, Lindsay was not born yet and Scott was not even a gleam in his Dad's eye and Mount St. Helen's exploded. It was an extrordinary event at the time. It was such a large event that ash from the volcanic explosion settled out in Minitonas and many other locations around the world.
Well today we went to where it happened and were touched with the enormity of this event. The whole side of this mountain was blasted away. The trees are 3 - 5 feet in diameter/ Again, the photos should tell the story. An amazing place.

Comments
I climbed to the very top of Mt. St. Helens on July 5, 1972, eight years before it blew. Even then it was venting steam and smelled quite strongly of sulpur. \it;s kinda weird to have been someplace that doesn't exist any more.
