Toured the one bedroom suites and Rondevals today with the head butler and another returning couple, for curiosity sake, after breakfast on the balcony.
Good Morning Banana Coladas and Orange Coladas at the swim up bar, followed by some reading in the cabana interspersed with swimming in the ocean to cool down and coconut rum. It has been unseasonably hot here, as the drought continues. Even we at the Resort have been asked to conserve now despite the fact they have their own desalination plants and storage facilities. It has never been this hot and dry since records have been kept.
We went to the Caribbean Street Party tonight. Having street parties is a cultural thing in
St Lucia every Friday night, so the Resort has started having their own. Amazing food choices from seafood broth to chicken soup inn cauldrons. Jerk beef and chicken, BBQ beef, multiple salads, different from the Beach Party, deep fried local fish, local Piton beer, wine, Caribbean rice (with very tiny flat beige 'peas", roti which is chunks of meat in what looks like a wrap or tortilla, but very thin and fried plantain (like bananas) and dessert that looks like a pogo but the corn meal is flavoured with sugar and cinnamon, and hot deep fried donuts but less sweet than ours.
Then to the British Pub to watch the ladies gold medal hockey game against USA. We wore our Olympic mitts, which a real hit with the Lucian staff, but not so much with Americans once we took and maintained the two point lead. Mary started a rousing round of O Canada when they won. A couple from Memphis, Tennessee who were with us hold dual citizenship but travel on their American Passport cheered for the Canadian team, because their niece was 21 Haley (not Wikkenheiser) and they are related to the Lalande's that have The Brick in North Bay. They were were originally from Thunder Bay.
