We finally all got together at the Bangkok airport at about 3:45 this morning and took off for a 3-hour flight to Paro, Bhutan.  Arrived shortly before 8 am at the most beautiful airport.  Our plane used up all but about 100 yards of the only runway and we were the only plane within hundreds of miles.  We boarded a bus (private to the 5 of us) and headed to a restaurant in the hills of Paro for complimentary tea.  Our guide met us at the restaurant and we took off for the 90 minute drive to Thimphu.  Many one lane roads just wide enough for two vehicles to pass slowly, but the main highway from Paro to Thimphu was a narrow two lane road - very clean, smooth and safe.

First off, not much asphalt in Bhutan and everywhere you look it's countryside and gorgeous! People are friendly, buildings are all similar styling, decorated with paintings on the outside, and prices are cheap.  When we arrived at our hotel we were given a couple of hours before lunch to relax.  Jaye and Jane took a rest but the boys took off on a walk around town.  Got together for lunch (which was delicious) then headed out for some sightseeing and hiking.  We're convinced it was a "test" of our ability to hike the hills in the high altitude...we all passed with flying colors!

I'll stop typing and attach a few photos.  Add more later.  Roger

Hey Guys/Gals/Ponies, glad to see that you've arrived safely. Bhutan looks awesome, but chilly ! Enjoy your stay & keep us posted. Thanks again, the Avalon crew :-)

My email told me that "GC" had posted a blog update. I wasn't sure why an STI (GC is the short term for gonorrhea) was posting a blog, when I realized that it could stand for either Gary or Gerry...coincidence? correlation? causation? You be the judge. Of course, when I noticed that the update contained full sentences rather than grunts, I thought Jane had posted something. Alas, Roger is the author. Bit disappointing, was looking forward to what gonorrhea had to say...the stories it could tell!
Have just worked the last 15hrs straight. Hoping the phone will stay quiet for the rest of the night!

Hey Sarah, The Most Fabulous Jacket is indeed fabulous..keeping me warm and dry

Roger on

Sorry to disappoint, Sarah...can't speak for gonorrhea - a particularly unpredictable voice all its own I'm sure. Now, if you're looking for the voice of syphillis, I think I can translate (or not, but I could fake it : ) BTW - stand by...Gerry's been identifying one project after another for Sarah regarding photo presentations and compilations...fair warning!

photo compilations are easy. Make sure Gerry and Jane have a copy of all photos on a jump drive and I can put it together. It's also easier if you have an idea of some music that might work (If you don't give me the music, I will the photos to a Yanni CD). Fair warning!

Gerry is such an ideas man........
His idea is for someone else to do all the work !!!! LMAO

Mark, do be kind. I have squatted in Jane and Gerry's house for CONSIDERABLE time in 2010. Gerry tells me that I only have 300 more hours of hard labour until I've paid off my debt!
