I recently had a wonderful holiday at the wonderful island of Mauritius. The scenery was breathtaking. The island's volcanic origins are obvious when you drive around the island. The jagged mountains form part of an ancient caldera which surrounds the island. Mauritius is about 60 miles long and 30 miles wide. The beaches are amongst the most beautiful in the world and the turquoise sea in the lagoons is a delight. The temperature of the sea is between 24 - 28 degrees celsius depending on the season ( winter - june to september.......Summer - october to may ). What would also impress the visitors is the diversity of the population on the island, there are people from europe, india, africa and from all over the world. The official language is english but everybody can speak french and creole which is derived from the french language. Bhojpuri and Mandarin is also spoken by many people on the island as there were many immigrants from india and china who came to work on the island a couple of centuries ago. Their descendants have kept alive their traditions and their language. The diverse population are very tolerant of each other's customs and their warm welcome is legendary around the world. I have posted a couple of videos which will give anybody considering to go there an idea of what this wonderful place looks like. "You gather the idea that Mauritius was made first and then heaven, and that heaven was copied after Mauritius." Mark Twain -1896.
