Spent an amazing 3 days in Tiger Camp - a nice resort in Corbetts Tiger Reserve with the hope of seeing Tigers! We did 5 jeep safaris over 3 days, either late afternoon or very early morning, when the animals were most active! Very exciting because we were driving around in open top jeeps with a guide and driver and no gun, which was a bit scary, tracking tigers! Lots of dust and excitement when we were waiting in silence, convinced that there was a tiger in the bush and then it turned out to be a deer! We saw lots of animals including monkeys, samba and spotted deer, peacocks, birds of pray, wild boar and a herd of wild elephants but no tigers!!
We were very close, spotting tiger paw prints, poo, urine but no tigers! A few times we were in a grassy area where you could hear warning calls from deer and hear noises which the guides thought were tigers but if they were in the long grass, we couldn't see them. We also passed other jeeps who had seen tigers twice, about a minute before we arrive which was gutting! Indians however are not the most condusive to spotting wildlife when there are 12 to a jeep, all talking very loudly and wearing brightly coloured saris!!
We were rewarded however by seeing a herd of wild elephants with two tuskers and a baby which slightly made up for it!
Then went up to Kausani and Naintal, two hill stations, to escape the heat and spot the Himalayas and saw some great view and amazing electrical storms and lightning every night!
