We liked our first impressions of Ayutthaya, a relaxed town, built up around the ruins of Siam's ancient capital. After checking into a very friendly guesthouse, "Tony's Place", where they shouted massive greetings of "Sawasdee Kha" every time you walked in, we went for a night tour of the illuminated ruins.

The next morning, after visiting a cultural museum (where Lloyd was very impressed with the handmade scale models of the old palace and city) we visited in daylight the ruins we could walk to. We took some good pictures but after a while one ruined temple begins to merge with another, so it was back to the guesthouse. After eating good food and drinking probably too many cocktails we spent the evening playing 'who can play the best song on grooveshark', (which obviously Lloyd won) sharing a set of headphones and laughing a lot, the other dinners definately wondered what we were up to!

We frittered away Good Friday doing a relaxed catch up of blog, postcards and planning, and drinking far too much iced lemon tea! That evening we caught the night bus to Chiang Mai, getting probably as much sleep as everyone at home, celebrating on Good Friday night!
