At lunchtime we found a small restaurant and ordered the standard "menu del dia" for 7 soles (just under $3) and expected the normal plate of chicken and rice. We were pleasantly surprised when a three course meal came out, with an entrée of something that we have no idea what it was, but it was different and looked like they put a lot of time into making it
We had decided to stop at Caraz as we had heard that there was some great trekking in the area, so we spent the day investigating our options. I'm really not sure where the day went, by the time we had done some laundry, spent some time on the internet and Kory had removed another thick layer of dust from the bikes, it was half way through the afternoon. As we looked at the treks, we realised that lots of them were multi-day hikes, which we didn't really want to sign up to, as they required a guide, porter, donkey etc or else would entail a lot more research and us hiring backpacks and a smaller/lighter tent. The other option was to cycle to a lake, but that meant a 2000m climb on a dirt road, in the wrong direction of our intended route, and we decided we were too lazy for that! Our best bet seemed to be to cycle on to Huaraz and do one or two of the one-day hikes from that town instead, which is on our way anyway.
