We made it to the airport in plenty of time. John dropped us off then he took the suburban to the Bell work centre at Atwell Drive. Charles, Patrick & I got all the boarding passes and moved right up to the front of the check in line & still no John. So, of course we let everyone go past us. It didn't really matter that John was late getting back to the airport as the airport computers kept going down. Anyhow, we had plenty of time. John's taxi person (from some other country) couldn't find him, so after walking to the closest hotel, the Residence Mariott, John just flagged down the first cabby he saw.
So, we took the oversized luggage over to OS2, well, darn it, their machines were down. They sent us to OS4 on the other side of the WestJet counter. Then through the sanning machines. The girl checking the bags made a comment about each of us having a "road rocket" for the flight. We had stopped at Subway on the way through Cobourg yesterday, so we'd have something to eat on the flight to Kelowna. But, we ate some of it while waiting to board. The flight was delayed about an hour, but we did arrive in Kelowna only 15 minutes behind schedule. It was crucial to arrive at noon, as the Gold medal hockey game - Canada vs USA - was starting right at 12 o'clock. The boys were waiting for us, John got the rental, stopped for cold beer at Tom Collin's Pub on the way to the house on Burtch Rd., then home.
We got all of our reds on, everyone, including Vienna. We cheered and cheered and cheered, but the game still ended up with an OT period. So, what do the Geens do, they get the mitts on, hats on, Canadian in the hands and start singing the Canadian national anthem. We held the last couple of notes, "forrrrrrr theeeeeee" and voila, "Syd, the Kid" scored the OT goal for the GOLD medal! Patrick's little comment was "Sydney - Finally". Anyhow, it was worth missing our free ski, compliments of WestJet & Big White, this afternoon.
Once the game was over, the dinner prep was a team effort. The dinner tonight was steak, twice baked potatoes, caesar salad, fried mushrooms and carmelized onions.
