Where I stayed
Finke River Free Camp
Wednesday 26/10/11
Headed out and drove virtually across the Stuart Highway into
the Owen Springs Conservation
Park. It is the original
Station settled in Central Australia and nestles beside the Hugh River.
It is a challenging 4wd track hrough the usual corrugations, sand, river bed
and stones. We stopped at the old homestead for a look around then north to
join Larapinta Rd
which is the Alice Hermansburg road. We then headed into the West MacDonald
Ranges, calling in at Elery River
Waterhole then onto to the Finke River near St Helens.
Followed the river off the road and after the usual sand, rocks and
corrugations found an ideal campspot when we settled for lunch and the
afternoon relaxing. Lots of birds and saw a Dingo having a drink in the middle
of the day.
Thursday 27/10/11
Back to G'Day Mate at Alice and set to wait until Marg starts work
on 8/11/11 to move into unit. On the way we dropped in to Redbank Waterhole. Lucky
to see a Perentye up close. Easy to see where the inspiration comes for the dot
paintings.
