Jan 22 - A bit overcast today. We caught a bus in La Penita for Bucerias where we had spent a month 2 years ago. We are off to see my sister Lois and her son Robin and girlfriend Pam at an all inclusive right on the border of Bucerias and Nuevo Vallarta. It was about an hour bus ride. We were dropped off right downtown so we sauntered passed all of our old haunts, especially Miguel Angel restaurant where we used to go for margaritas and sometimes dinner. We walked the 30 minutes from there to the Decameron. Lois and Robin and Pam met us at the front gate.
This is how the other half lives. Absolute luxury. And sanitized. They showed us around and we had lunch. Lois arranged for us to buy a day pass for $35 US each so we could pig out with the regulars. We walked down the beach to the town squre and had margaritas at Miguel Angels. Miguel is such a friendly guy and we really enjoyed talking to him again. Then he came out wearing a Calgary Flames cap. We won't be going there again.
We walked back and stopped at one of the many pool bars on site and watched the rich people drink and play.
Lois made reservations for 6:00 at a fancy restaurant on the complex (which is huge, by the way). Dinner was great. For some reason, the wine was extra.
I had arranged for Lois to bring me down my precious Lamb's Navy rum as you can't get it here. So we picked up the rum, said our hasta luegos, and caught a taxi to the bus depot around 7:30. The bus lady was very nice. As we were waiting, it was clear that there was some kind of fiesta going on in town. Some cute kids came by wearing costumes so she made them stop and pose for us. We got home to our comparitively spartan surroundings at around 8:30.
Jan 23 - It was raining today. We just sort of hung out and packed for our Guadalajara trip. A nice couple from Edmonton, Janet and Darryl, were heading home tomorrow so 6 of us took them out for dinner. They gave us all of their unused fridge stuff like mustard and catchup and limes and we said our goodbyes. This goes on all the time.
