Yes, more fun and adventure. Today I was going quad biking with Bex, Carolyn and Melanie. It turned out to be just the 4 of us, plus Joe our guide. It took us an hour and half to drive up through the windy roads of the mountain and through the jungle to reach our starting point. On the way up however, Joe decided to warn us about the snakes, on and the pig! We didn't have to worry about the snakes, it was the wild pig that would charge at us if we happened to come across him! A killer pig in the jungle??!! Not quite what I had expected!!
So we finally arrive and 2 other guys are there to help us with the tour. WE get kitted out in so much gear we can hardly move! My boots are the smallest hey have, at size 9!! So helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, chest pad, boots on and the lovely goggles all on and we get a full safety demonstration before we begin practicing around trees and bushes in a figure of 8
. We aren't let loose until Joe is happy. Now this is a half day trip but its already midday before we set off!! Joe isn't worried, he likes us and wants to make sure we have a great day. So off we go, roaring up the roads, me in number 2 position. However, it wasn't long before I was demoted to the back! I was the novice of the group and holding the others up!! Joe stayed back with me and I had to go where he went, oh apart from he didn't drive into the cliff!! Yes I managed to get myself caught in a rut and tipped sideways! Luckily I went towards the upright of the cliff and not down the other way!!! Joe was ace, he laughed and said I'd got that out of the way now so could get on with driving!! Off we went and my confidence didn't grow. I was like an ironing board! Trying to go down hill, holding both the brakes and a little bit of acceleration at the same time with my little hands was not easy! Talk about cramp! Then Joe realised my bike wasn't behaving so we swapped and I had his! So much easier, no wonder I was struggling! We stopped for a while to watch Carolyn trying to get her quad up a really steep bit. I've got some video footage which I will try and upload. It was so funny! She tried so hard but couldn't quite make it! Carolyn was the most confident of the group and if she couldn't do it, we weren't going to try! Off we went again and now my confidence was growing. I was bounding up and down the hills, loving every minute. Then disaster struck. Confident Carolyn had managed to tip her quad over. She was ok but the clutch was broken. The company cover wear and tear but any damage is paid for the by the rider. Uh oh!! Carolyn was lucky though as Joe charged her 300 baht and his boss would have charged her 1200!! One of the other guys had to limp her quad back which meant she got his quad and I became Joe's passenger! How did that happen??!! Was great fun to be on the back though. Then disaster struck again. This time Bex got her quad stuck and managed to get the chain off at th same time
! Good job the boys carry a tool kit! Joe must have confidence in me no as I'm now the driver and he is my passenger!! We go hairing up the track to find a motorbike which we had left behind earlier. Now Joe has his own 2 wheels, a little harder than 4 wheels on these tracks! Again I had to follow Joe wherever he went so this time he took me off on other tracks that the others didn't do. I think he thought I'd missed out earlier so wanted me to have some fun and let me rip!! We finally head back to camp and took our gear off and put the quads away. I was buzzing and wanted to do it all again, my body however was not as active as my enthusiasm!! Joe dropped us back, 6 hours later than we'd paid for! He said he had a great day, despite our continued disasters! Not sure what excuse he was going to give his boss for being so late!
Another quick shower and off to the night market. Oh my god, so much shopping to do in such little time! I must say though, I was quite reserved with my shopping!!
