If you know me, you know that I love anything to do with Texas!  I love cowboys, country music, cowboy boots and of course the Bush's!  If I had the choice of any state to live in, it would probably be Texas.  So, as you can guess, I was very excited to drive into Amarillo, even for just a day and I was not disappointed!
The panhandle of Texas is flat, windy and barren, but it is also beautiful!  Miles and miles of ranch land with cattle dotting the landscape.    It just reminds you how tough and tenacious Texans are.  They battle harsh conditions all the time, but love the land and their state.  Doesn't get more American than that!
Rob particularly loved the sign at the Welcome Center warning of rattlesnakes.  I don't think he left the pavement once after seeing that.  I guess my dream of owning a Texas ranch won't be happening anytime soon!
The sky in the panhandle is beautiful.  It was big and blue and we could see for miles.

I do have to say that I couldn't make much sense of Cadillac Ranch.  As Rob said, it looks like someone planted a Cadillac and out grew a few more.  All you see in the middle of a dried up field is a bunch of spray painted Cadillacs sticking half way out of the ground.  What surprised me the most, was all the empty spray cans thrown all over the ground.  Didn't seem very nice to me, but as Samantha said, "It adds to the art, Mom!"  We were excited to see that someone had spray painted Chanel on one of the cars, so we put our Chanel up there for a picture.  Of course, Chanel just thought we were crazy and for a minute I thought we were going to lose her to the inside of the rusted out Cadillac, but Rob grabbed her and saved the day.
The highlight of our trip was our visit to the Big Texan Steak Ranch.  Our limo arrived decked out with horns and all.  Who says you have to rough it while camping?   The Big Texan Steak Ranch was as Texas as you can get!  They challenge you to eat a 72 oz. steak in less than an hour to get the steak for free.  I think Rob was tempted, but I begged him not too.  The last thing I wanted was to have to carry him back to the camper in agony. Luckily, he came to his senses.  Two guys did try it while we were there.  One quit about 3/4 of the way.  The other guy, on a local wrestling team, made it through.  He then proceeded to throw up right there on the floor. Only in Texas!  My baked sweet potato did not look so appetizing after that!
The highlight of the evening was the singing Cowboys.  These guys had to be in their eighties, one of them even had an oxygen tank he carried with him!  They went around and sang to your table if you wanted them too.  They sang a Randy Travis song for us and then George Strait's "All My Ex's Live in Texas"  That was perfect, since I had been singing it all day.
By the time we left that night we were full and happy.  Probably the best night so far, and best of all the kids all said they love Texas!   Maybe next year we can spend our entire two weeks traveling Texas!
