We arrived at Graceland RV Park and Campground around 11:00 am and pulled into our spot on Hound Dog Way.  This was a much better trip than yesterday. It was only three hours long, and our AC was working. We, of course, still jumped into the pool as soon as possible, but with the heat it felt more like a bath.  Then we went in and cleaned up for our Graceland tour.
From the time Rob and I started planning this trip, 8 months ago, I told the family that if we driving through Memphis, we were stopping at Graceland.  Sammi, Katie and Kyle were not too thrilled about this, but they knew if they wanted mom happy they were going to have to suffer through it. Secretly, I was hoping that once they went on the tour they would have a new found appreciation for Elvis, but unfortunately two of them still don't like him.  The third told me she kind of did, but I was not to tell anyone, so I won't name names.

Of course, I loved the tour!  If it wasn't so blazing hot out, I probably could have spent hours there touring everything.  I settled for the mansion, a few gift shops, ice cream and the airplanes. Then by the look on my children's faces, I knew that I better get them back to the RV before there was a mutiny.

I recommend stopping at Graceland if anyone is in the area.  I grew up watching Elvis movies with my mom on Saturdays, and listening to his Christmas records while we set up the Christmas tree every year. There wasn't much I didn't now about him already, but just seeing all those gold records displayed along the walls really makes you realize how incredible he was.  I also loved hearing how generous he was, and seeing that he really hadn't drifted too far from his humble beginnings.  By the end of the tour, I was a little teary eyed looking at his grave along side his mama's, his dad's and his grandma's. The music playing all over wasn't too bad either!  I told the kids I would be singing it all the way to Oklahoma tomorrow.  They replied with a big, "NOOOOO!"

Besides going to see Graceland, if your in Memphis you have to try the barbecue!  We were pleasantly surprised to find out that a local barbecue restaurant sends out a pink limo to anyone at the rv park who wants to come out for dinner.  That was right up our alley!  So at 6:30 we climbed into the limo and headed out for some local cuisine.  We were not disappointed!  It is always a good sign to see locals eating along side tourists.  We tried everything from barbecue ribs to barbecue shrimp and threw in some southern green beans and mac and cheese.  Not the most nutritious dinner out there, but well worth it.   Even picky Sammi tried most of it.

So today has definitely been a great day for The Upson's.  We got to see a place none of us have been to before, heard good music (at least I think so!) and tried some good ole Memphis barbecue.  This was one for the memory book.  Now tomorrow we are off to Arkansas and Oklahoma.
