After bidding a sad farewell to Katy and Andy in Melbourne we got back into Moose and drove 300km north across the border into New South Wales to my birth place, Wagga Wagga. Given I left here before I was even six months old my memory of the place is limited but it was great to drive around town to see where we used to live and the hospital I was born in.
With so many miles to cover in so little time we moved on and crossed the Snowy Mountains on route back to the coast. The mountains were beautiful and the weather was the best we had seen for a while so we were actually able to enjoy a beer in the evening outside of the campervan! We stopped off to enjoy a cooling swim in the thermal pool (which wasn't so thermal!) before relaxing at our campsite at Three Mile Dam.
Back on the coast we camped out next to Lake Brou, a National Park spot with the lake right next to the sea. We nearly jumped out of our skin when a kangaroo bounced onto the beach while we were enjoying the sunset.
Moving north we stayed in Kangaroo Valley, a lovely village in a valley where we swam in the river. The campsite really came to life at night, not with people but wombats! The area should really be called Wombat Valley as there were so many of them. Every half hour or so during the night we were woken by wombats rubbing themselves against Moose, a very odd experience!
After a brief visit to Carrington Falls we drove to Sydney where we spent the next two days doing all the normal tourist sites. We loved Sydney Fish Market with its massive crabs and found a great street market in The Rocks. By far our best experience in Sydney though was when Ed (from Africa trip) called to say that his Dad who lives in Sydney had offered to take us out on his boat around the harbour. We spent a fantastic morning cruising around looking at the massive houses in our own private boat. Seeing the bridge and Opera House from the water was brilliant, a real treat.

Bit disappointed not to see a plaque with "Birthplace of 2 Missfitts" on the sign!!
So envious - it all sounds dreamy.
