Well, Jim fibbed! Today's ride was 175kms - not 163Kms as set out in the schedule. It was a hot day, and we had the benefit of a tail/cross wind for most of the day. Did the trip in 6 hours and 28 minutes ride time (average of 27kms/hour), which wasn't bad. We were a bit concerned yesterday that we would have head winds most of the day, which would have been really tough.

We got up at 5.30am this morning, just in case the winds were against us, and hit the road at about 6.45am. It started out nice and cool, but soon developed into a warm one.

The countryside was still very flat, but the irrigation from the Murrumbidgee has allowed crops such as rice to be grown. It was also nice to see the tree line in the paddocks which marked the river as we travelled along - made it a bit more interesting.

We had morning tea and then lunch on the banks of the legendary Murrumbidgee, which is quite a large river meandering through the plains.

Marcus and I camped at the back of the peleton for a lot of the ride - because it was Sunday there wasn't much traffic, so we let the pack slip away from us for about 100 metres, and then we would have a sprint race back up to it!

Good fun, until about 40kms away from Leeton, when Mark got stung by a bee on the ear. After stopping quickly, I got the sting out and he took some medication - he is allergic to bees! He kept going for a while, but he started to get a rash, swelling up a bit in certain parts, and was not feeling too good. So he got off the bike and into one of the support vechiles. A bit later he was sick and as a precaution Eric took him into Leeton hospital, where he was given some more medication. He is now recovering (after a cold shower too!) and is hoping to be right to ride tomorrow.

We arrived in Leeton by mid afternoon, with the Presbyterian Church feeding us tonight. It was a BBQ, which was great. Locals also made some donations to the cause - thank you.

Maximus's ear was a bit tender when he went to bed tonight - see the photo!

A 131km ride tomorrow to Temora - so early to bed.

Hey there
There must be something about Hay cos my brother came off his bike when he did the ride nearly 20 years ago. Was trying to see how fast he could go and came a-cropper and couldn't finish! It must have been later in the month 'cos it was the day before his b'day on the 28th!

Say hi to Yvonne for me. We go back many years to the youth group at Armadale.
